A guide to Greek and Roman Provincial coins found in England and Wales. These coins are relatively rare in Britain. They were issued by Greek city-states between about 500 BC and 300 AD, and come from cities as far afield as Sicily, North Africa and Jerusalem as well as Greece.
They may have made their way to Britain through ancient trade, or be much more recent losses from antiquarian collections.
