Use for items that have had grooves cut (rather than cast) into them. These terms are used in various ways, but in theory 'engraving' involves the removal of a tiny amount of metal, and chasing does not - the metal is just pushed aside by the tool. It is not usually possible to tell these apart once an item has been worn or polished. Don't use the word 'chased' in the Object Description field without an explanation of what you mean - it is not a widely understood term.
