Use for objects with stamp or punch marks, for example Roman brooches, bracelets, strap-ends and copper-alloy vessels, and early Anglo-Saxon brooches, bucket mounts and girdle-hangers. Stamp or punch marks can include ring-and-dot, which was used from Roman times right up to the 19th century. 'Stamped' should also be used for pottery, especially some Roman and early Anglo-Saxon pottery; and for cloth seals, flax seals etc;
The term should not be used here to describe a method of manufacture, e.g. for items made by pressing or 'stamping' out of a piece of sheet (e.g. thimbles, flimsy mounts, coins or jettons).
