Archaeological wetland landscapes of Northwest Europe from the Roman through Medieval periods: A comparative spatial analysis.

Principal investigator: Liam
Level: PhD level research

I am a first year PhD student studying Archaeology at UCL. My project title is: "Archaeological wetland landscapes of Northwest Europe from the Roman through Medieval periods: A comparative spatial analysis."

A large part of this project will involve GIS analyses of archaeological sites in the UK, the Netherlands, and Belgium. I am already operating with HER data from British Fenland Counties, but would like research access to PAS records for my analysis. My intention is to download this data, categorise sites within GIS and the compare findspot distributions across different regions and time periods. Using similar European databases (PAN and MEDEA) it should become possible to meaningfully compare these distributions across different wetland landscapes.

I am in need of access to this data over the next 3 years as I complete my PhD. As records are being constantly added and updated, I will have to refresh my dataset multiple times over the course of my research. In my thesis, findspots will appear as point scatters on maps, the exact details of each site will not be advertised. My research will also fully acknowledge the PAS as the source of this data.
