My current thread of study seeks to characterise the rural preceptories of the Knights Templar in England 1128-1308, aiming to discuss their spatial layout, nature and socio-economic impact. The dissertation will use case studies to illustrate key themes, seeking to determine how archaeological, landscape and historical data can be combined to develop a nuanced understanding of Templar preceptories in their landscape setting and how this may have changed over tine. Part of my approach is to look at residual material culture that could be used to denote the presence and activities of the Templars - in this I thought the PAS database might be a great resource.
