Bawdsey, Suffolk

Last year I had a paper published on the lost Medieval port of Goseford on the lower part of the River Deben in Suffolk (Proceedings of the Suffolk Institute of Archaelogy and History 43(4) 2016 p 582). My research is continuing but is now investigating the role of the village of Bawdsey as the principal settlement on the port. I am currently trying to establish where in the village the port was located. This is not easy because silting up and the later building of river walls has meant that the village is now some distance from the water. I noticed that on the PAS website there is reference specifically to coins from the reigns of Henry II, Henry III, Edward I and Edward III being found in Bawdsey. It seems to me that there might be some correlation as to where these coins were found that might hint at the whereabouts of jetties or staithes. By way of example I am aware of the finding of three merchant's seals in the village which (in the case of two of them) is indicative of the whereabouts of merchant's housing.
