Post graduate research at Exeter University. My research project investigates the development of boundaries on the Isle of Wight with the eventual aim moving some way towards identifying pre-Norman estate structures on the island. To achieve this, access to location of find spots will help identify locations of particularly Anglo-Saxon activity. The currently accepted structure of parishes based upon a linear pattern of ecclesiastical parishes is considered simplistic with only a few sections of these linear boundaries offering a sinuous morphology that might indicate that they are earlier than most of the ecclesiastical boundaries on the island. It is hoped that some of the boundaries will be dated if funding can be attracted to undertake C 14 and/or OSL analysis.
