I am a masters student studying archaeology at the University of Leicester. For my dissertation I am looking at the Iron Age and Roman landscapes in central southern Nottinghamshire. This landscape study aims to integrate traditional HER data and National Mapping Project data as well existing and new survey, i.e. geophysical, data in order to construct and image of the Iron Age and Roman landscapes north of the River Trent. There are several suspected Iron Age enclosure sites beyond the immediacy of the Trent Valley to the north, as well as several Roman camps and forts. It is hoped that the significance of these sites can be understood through a reassessment of the existing data as well as the collection of new data. The addition of PAS data should be able to provide a good indication of sites within this landscape, where the formation of crop marks is restricted by the geology and soils as well as complementing known site locations.
