"What was the social, political and cultural impact of Scandinavian contact and settlement on the town of Torksey in the ninth to eleventh centuries?"
In order to answer this question I will be investigating how ethnic identity was expressed through material culture during this period both in the town of Torksey itself and the wider Lincolnshire area. The Anglo-Scandinavian metalwork recorded on the Portable Antiquities Scheme will form a vital part of this investigation, hence this request for research level access.
The completed dissertation is not due until Spring 2011, but I will be attempting to complete it by February due to other work commitments.
