This project, started in 2008, aims to update Gardiner's 1990 review of The Archaeology of the Weald for later prehistoric Kent. Results from the initial desk-top exercise using data from the usual sources, including the HER, grey literature and PAS, pointed up the importance of looking more closely at a range of under-used documentary sources, and of working with local individuals and groups where possible, to flush out more detail about old sites and finds especially in those parts of this under-investigated area. Recent research has focused on pinning down the location and context of the Goudhurst hoard (with Goudhurst History Society) and of contemporary metalwork in Kent, and is now re-assessing the most remarkable of the Bronze Age hoards of Kent; the Late Bronze one from Marden (with Marden History Group), in the context of the growing number of bronze (and gold) hoards in the county coeval with it.
