Many of the district museums across the county offer opportunities for you to get involved. They include:

There are also a whole host of smaller, local museums that offer many opportunities for you to get involved and learn more about your local history. Each part of Essex has its own unique character, from the colourfully painted houses of Uttlesford to the rugged coastlines of Tendring and Maldon. Local archaeology and history societies
The Essex society for archaeology and history has been running since AD 1852. Their focus is the study and preservation of the heritage of the county of Essex and they achieve this in a variety of ways.
The South-East Essex Archaeological and Historical Society operates in the Southend and Castle Point area.
Maldon archaeological and historical group are predominantly based in the Maldon area and have ongoing projects involving excavation and
YAC
The Young Archaeologists Club (YAC) is a project started by the Council for British Archaeology. YAC operates across the country with local groups formed of young enthusiasts who want to learn about their local archaeology and also more about the discipline itself.
In Essex YAC are based at Colchester and Southend-on-Sea.
