Applications are invited for an HLF funded Institute of Field Archaeologists (IFA) Workplace Learning Bursary in Historical Archaeology within ARCUS. This training post has been specifically created under the Workplace Learning Bursaries Scheme, and is an excellent opportunity to receive training in archaeological fieldwork and post-excavation activities within a commercial archaeological consultancy. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Anna Badcock, Assistant Director of ARCUS. Richard O’Neill will act as mentor, to provide support and encouragement throughout the placement.
The successful candidate will develop a wider understanding of commercial archaeology and the historic environment learning techniques in archaeological fieldwork, including excavation, recording, survey and photography. You will also gain experience in processing and handling artefact assemblages. There may also be an opportunity to use the experience gained in this placement towards a vocational Qualification in Archaeological Practice.
Some archaeological experience is desirable; candidates should possess a qualification or equivalent experience in archaeology, history, heritage management or a related subject. Candidates should also be able to demonstrate a commitment to the study of archaeology and the historic environment and learning and improving. Applicants should be prepared to undertake fieldwork outdoors in all weathers. The post is available for twelve months and will be based in Sheffield but will involve work at various archaeological sites in the region (transportation will be provided).
