The Portable Antiquities Scheme (PAS) is a voluntary scheme to record archaeological objects found by the public, including metal detector users, to advance archaeological knowledge and to increase opportunities for active public involvement in archaeology. This data is published on www.finds.org.uk and is made available to the relevant Historic Environmental Records. This post is funded by The British Museum.

We are looking for an outgoing person to take on the role of Finds Liaison Officer for Essex. You should have specialist knowledge of finds recording and a flair for communicating the importance of archaeological heritage to people from different backgrounds.

As Finds Liaison Officer you will make contact with members of the public, including metal detector users, explain the aims of the Scheme and the Treasure Act to professionals and the public and identify and record finds on the Scheme database. You may also be working with volunteers as part of the PASt Explorers project.

You will be based in Colchester and work closely with PAS and Treasure colleagues at the British Museum.
