Nicolo Tron bought about a time of peace and freedom in the Republic of Venice through diplomacy and the formation of alliances, particularly with the Turks. Tron brought about a monetary reform and introduced a new silver coin called the ‘Tron’. The coin was controversial because unlike other denominations it contained a profile of the Doge himself, which went against the republican aversion to personality cults. The coin was discontinued after his death. Nicolo Tron is buried in the Basilica di Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari.
